Anti Bling Store is a fashion accessory company, handcrafted in the heart of Brooklyn. What started simply as Gregory Malcolm creating custom necklaces for himself, using new technology to cut the design then assembling the pieces himself. It was not that long before his collection caught the attention of neighbors in Crown Heights and fellow artists around NYC. With many inquiries as to where he got his necklace, he knew that it would be a wasted opportunity if not pursued.
The attention was not reason enough for starting a company, though. Gregory Malcolm desired more than just ownership. He wanted to lead a company raising the bar for ethical jewelry, an industry that has historically created conflicts over resources. Using architectural instead of precious metals, this reduces the possibility of it being sourced through undesirable methods. On top of this, stainless steel tends to be the most recycled material on the planet, adding to it sustainability. Other metals are on the horizon in the near future.
Over time, this make-your-own jewelry project grew into a sole proprietorship that involves his wife and fellow artisans. From pop-up markets around NYC (such as Brooklyn Bazaar) to various festivals (including AfroPunk in 2014) to small boutiques around Brooklyn (currently Franklin's Makers), Anti Bling is establishing itself as a part of the fabric of our community in Brooklyn.
